San Jose de Morona
San Jose is a small community in the jungle. It is situated in the province of Morona Santiago, a couple of hours from the Peruvian border. It is a tropical area with lots of primary and also secondary forest. In this area you can find lots of different vegetation: plants, trees, flowers, fruits and medicinal plants.
From San Jose you can make trips to the rivers and banana plantations, but especially the trips into the tropical rainforest are really spectacular. You have to bring long sleeves and long trousers to protect yourself against the mosquitos and other insects. But when you have a good protection against the insects it is an incredible place to make hikes.
You should not go alone because it is easy to loose your track. Besides that it is much more interesting to go with a guide who can explain the many different uses of the rainforest and its trees, plants, flowers, insects and animals.
